After your operation it is important you get your hip muscles strong to return to normal activities like walking, bowling, cycling and pilates.
Before your operation is the perfect time to build some strength in your muscles, and build some fitness to cope with the operation better.
Christchurch Hospital is well equipped with fantastic gym facilities which is the ideal environment to rehab your hip. The exercises can be made easier or harder depending on your ability, fitness and strength.
The class is supervised by a registered physiotherapist. There will be various options for progressing exercises, and asking general questions about recovery. The class will be an opportunity to meet other people who are also waiting for and recovering from hip surgery. Lots of people find exercising in a group beneficial for motivation, connecting with other people and well-being.
You can attend at any stage after your operation including months afterwards.
To attend you need to be:
- Allowed to put full weight on your leg
- Mobilising unaided or with crutches or a stick. If you require a frame to walk, unfortunately this class will not be suitable.
Please read the following feedback that patients have given after the classes:
You must call ahead to book, you cannot just turn up.
