Dr Khurshid is a dedicated and passionate Consultant Rheumatologist with more than a decade of consultant‑level experience at University Hospitals Dorset NHS Foundation Trust, where he has been practising since 2013. His aim has always been to provide high‑quality, compassionate, and evidence‑based care to every patient he sees. He believes strongly in clear communication, taking time to listen, and involving patients fully in decisions about their health. His practice covers the full spectrum of rheumatological disorders, including both inflammatory and non‑inflammatory conditions, and he is committed to delivering care that is personalised, respectful, and centred around each patient’s needs.
Dr Khurshid has a special interest in rheumatological ultrasonography and in the diagnosis and management of large‑vessel vasculitis, including giant cell arteritis (GCA), Takayasu arteritis, and polymyalgia rheumatica (PMR). He has been practising musculoskeletal and vascular ultrasound since 2010 and uses it routinely as an extension of his clinical assessment to diagnose and monitor a wide range of rheumatological diseases. He also teaches ultrasound nationally and internationally through courses run by the British Society for Rheumatology (BSR) and the European League Against Rheumatism (EULAR), and he is experienced in performing a wide range of ultrasound‑guided procedures.
In 2017, Dr Khurshid pioneered Dorset’s first specialist rapid‑access service for GCA and PMR, which has since become an essential part of the rheumatology department. This service uses ultrasound as the primary diagnostic tool and has significantly reduced the need for temporal artery biopsy in the region to under 10%. He has contributed to national and international research in this field and has led his own research projects in recent years. Alongside other experts, he has played a central role in developing new concepts such as the GCA–PMR Spectrum Disease (GPSD) and the HAS‑GCA score, a tool designed to help predict the likelihood of GCA in individual patients. Outside medicine, he enjoys sketching and fine art, reading and writing literature, and spending time with his family - interests that help him maintain balance and perspective in his clinical work.
