Mr. Harry Tossounis is a highly experienced Consultant Ophthalmic Surgeon based at the Royal Bournemouth Hospital, University Hospitals Dorset, and Nuffield Health Hospital in Bournemouth. His areas of clinical expertise include complex and routine cataract surgery, vitreoretinal surgery, and the management of medical retinal diseases.
Mr. Tossounis specialises in the surgical treatment of retinal conditions such as retinal detachment, macular hole, epiretinal membrane, floaters, vitreous haemorrhage, and diabetic-related eye disease. He also manages a broad range of medical retinal disorders including age-related macular degeneration, diabetic retinopathy, and retinal vein occlusions, employing both pharmacological and laser therapies.
He is proficient in advanced retinal and YAG laser techniques, including retinopexy, macular laser, pan-retinal photocoagulation (PRP), posterior capsulotomies, peripheral iridotomies, and SLT laser for glaucoma. He also offers secondary intraocular lens implantation and provides second opinions for complex ophthalmic cases.
Mr. Tossounis completed his ophthalmic training through the Wessex Deanery, working at Queen Alexandra Hospital in Portsmouth and University Hospitals Southampton. He further refined his expertise through two prestigious medical and surgical retina fellowships at University Hospitals Southampton and Moorfields Eye Hospital, London.
A committed educator and researcher, Mr. Tossounis trains junior ophthalmologists in the Wessex Deanery and leads several teaching and research initiatives at Royal Bournemouth Hospital. He has authored numerous peer-reviewed publications and remains actively involved in clinical research.
Outside of medicine, he enjoys spending time with his wife and two children. Together, they share a love for outdoor activities including swimming, tennis, and countryside excursions.
